Jennifer Aniston To Star In Apple Series Inspired By Jennette McCurdy’s ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ Memoir

Apple TV+ has given the green light to a dramedy titled I’m Glad My Mom Died, inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s popular memoir. Jennifer Aniston is set to both star in and serve as an executive producer for the show.

The 10-episode series will be written by former child actor Jennette McCurdy and film producer Ari Katcher as co-showrunners and executive producers, alongside Aniston.

Along with Aniston, McCurdy, and Katcher, the executive producers include Sharon Horgan’s Merman, LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael, and Erica Kay.

Jennette McCurdy, known for her role on iCarly, writes about her troubled relationship with her mother and her healing process following her mother’s passing in 2013. Her book, I’m Glad My Mom Died, was released in 2022 and quickly achieved best-seller status, remaining on the New York Times Best Seller list for over 80 weeks and selling upwards of 3 million copies.

Apple TV+ describes the upcoming series as a “heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of Jennette McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother (Aniston). The dramedy will center on the the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kid’s show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother.’”

McCurdy rose to fame as Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and its spinoff, Sam & Cat. In her 2022 book, she revealed that she was exploited as a child star.

She said: “My whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited. It still gives my nervous system a reaction to say it. There were cases where people had the best intentions and maybe didn’t know what they were doing. And also cases where they did — they knew exactly what they were doing.”

Jennette alleges in her book that she faced various indignities at Nickelodeon, including being forced to drink alcohol. She claims the network offered her $300,000 to stay silent about her experiences.
